NSCDC Nabs Six Over Electricity Cable Theft in Kano
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalising electricity installations and stealing transformer cables in the state.
The suspects were arrested at Hayin Da’e, Hotoro, in Tarauni Local Government Area, following credible intelligence provided by local vigilante groups.
How the Suspects Were Caught
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, the suspects were apprehended with vandalised transformer cables believed to have been removed at midnight from a transformer in Hayin Da’e, Hotoro.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been terrorising residents of Hayin Da’e, Farawa Kwanar Yashi, and Hotoro Eastern Bypass through repeated acts of burglary, theft, and vandalism of power equipment.
NSCDC’s Next Steps
Mr. Idris-Abdullahi confirmed that the suspects had already confessed to the crime, adding that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
He further assured residents that under the leadership of Commandant Shafi’u Abdulmumini, the corps will intensify surveillance and patrols across Kano State to curb vandalism and other forms of criminality.
Electricity Vandalism in Nigeria
Electricity vandalism remains a major challenge across Nigeria, often causing blackouts, equipment damage, and huge financial losses to power companies and communities. Security agencies have repeatedly warned that those caught sabotaging public infrastructure would face severe penalties.
The NSCDC’s swift arrest of six suspected cable vandals in Kano highlights ongoing efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help protect critical installations across the state.
